When all else fails we bring the body home with dignity
In Dec 2023, a young father lost his life while saving his children while swimming in Nowra city. When heavy winds carried his children towards deeper waters he rushed to push them to safety but drowned during this endeavour. He was one of our members.
The challenge
A family stranded...
It all happened quickly. The member was found quickly and rushed to the nearest hospital and was on life support. He was then moved to Westmead hospital where he was declared brain dead after 2 days. His family wanted to take his body back to India for his last rites. His family was distraught. They did not know how to navigate through these changing scenarios and of course expenses were mounting up.
Our solution

As the plan administrators, Mayfair stepped in. We took over the case from the get go and ensured that the family was not burdened with making arrangements for our member’s hospitalisation. When all else failed and the member was taken off life-support we moved in swiftly.
Mayfair appointed a local funeral director who helped in arranging necessary clearances from the embassy and book a cargo from Sydney to Hyderabad. The entire repatriation went smoothly.
The entire process was cashless.

We could not save the member. But we ensured that his journey back home was made with dignity. We tried our best to take over all the arrangements so that his family did not face the added burden of arranging his repatriation back home.
