A member covered under the family onsite health benefits of one of our seafarer clients approached Mayfair Assist under unique circumstances. She was seriously ill and needed immediate care. Her spouse, the primary member was away at sea and she had only her young daughter with her.
The challenge
But these are tests! Not eligible for cashless assistance
The member needed tests which are normally carried out under outpatient care. The policy conditions said that these benefits could not be cashless. The member would need to pay and then be reimbursed. To add to the challenge the hospital advised that the patient would need to be hospitalised for the tests after which treatment would be determined
Our solution
It’s the spirit of the policy that matters
As the plan administrators, Mayfair stepped in. We took this special case into consideration to the plan administrators and got authorisation to provide cashless assistance to the member.
The result
All’s well that ends well
The member went home after a couple of days of hospitalisation and gradually became well. The whole family, especially the daughter, expressed their gratitude to the Mayfair team for their empathy and care.
